Specials & discounts at more than 100 local restaurants

There's a brand new campaign starting in Rochester that promises discounts and specials at local restaurants. It's called "Crave Local Restaurants" and it's modeled after "Restaurant Week".

April 20 through April 29, 120 restaurants from Henrietta to Gates to Canandaigua will be featuring menu specials.

“Crave Local Restaurants" was created by the president of Palmer Foods. Dwight Palmer says it's a great way to attract tourists, stimulate the economy and promote local food culture.

Irondequoit Applebee's "calling" for sports fans and collectors

Celebrity photos, sports items and local memorabilia are among dozens of items that customers can bid on at the Applebee’s in Irondequoit.

The restaurant is preparing for its upcoming remodel and items currently on the walls in the restaurant will be up for auction. The auction goes until Sunday, February 12 at 5 p.m.

All proceeds will benefit the local Make-A-Wish Foundation chapter to help grant the wishes of children diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition.

All bids must be made through the Applebee's restaurant manager on-duty and items must be paid for in cash. Customers have until 5 p.m. Sunday, February 12 to pick up purchased items.

Mark's Pizzeria now serving gluten-free pizza

Mark's Pizzeria, with more than 40 locations in New York and Florida, is now serving gluten-free pizza.

After months of product testing and official certification to ensure the chain could deliver certified gluten-free pizza dough, Mark's Pizzeria launched its gluten-free pizza on September 3.

Other restaurants in our area serving gluten-free pizza are Great Northern Pizza Kitchen in Bushnell's Basin, Leo's Pizza in Victor, Pizzeria Uno and The Distillery.

Recipes for the last days of summer

Labor Day might be the unofficial end to summer, but if you’re like me, you’re not ready to let go just yet. One part of summer I always miss is fresh fruit and vegetables and all the summer time recipes that can come straight out of the garden.

John Freeze, the executive chef of The Erie Grill at the Renaissance Del Monte Lodge, was nice enough to share some of his favorite recipes right out of The Erie Grill cookbook:

New Copper Grill restaurant opens in Irondequoit

They’re not a diner, “but we’re absolutely American; a neighborhood restaurant,” said Serena Barry at last week’s grand opening of the Copper Grill, which has opened at 2256 Hudson Ave., Irondequoit.

Barry and her husband, Jeff, both from Greece, are founders and owners of the restaurant, but they’re not new to the business.

Jeff’s Dad is also the owner of the Crescent Beach restaurant in Greece.

“But we’re a different entity and totally separate,” Serena stressed.

While the Copper Grill had a “soft” opening Aug. 5, its official debut was a grand opening celebration, with invited guests including neighbors, town leaders and the Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce, on Wednesday, Aug.
