County Judge Frank Geraci nominated for federal judgeship

President Obama has officially nominated Monroe County Court Judge Frank Geraci for a spot on the federal bench.

Geraci has been a county court judge for more than 13 years. He served a city court judge before that. Geraci is a McQuaid graduate, and once worked as an assistant district attorney.

President Obama calls Geraci highly qualified, and a valuable addition to the U.S. District Court in Western New York.

Geraci was recommended by Senator Chuck Schumer, whose nominee last year, former D.A. Mike Green, was never confirmed.

Postal worker who says he was poisoned by package from "Yemen" talks to News10NBC

It's a real mystery as to what happened to a local man working for the postal service office in Florida. He says a package he handled last year was toxic and has made him incredibly sick. But he says the Postal Service doesn't believe him.

He felt good enough today to talk on camera with us today.

A good day is when Jeff Lill isn't totally nauseous and in pain all the time. He was still in bed when we talked to him today.

There's no doubt he's sick. The question is -- what made him sick?

He says it was a package about 20 pounds and the sender's address was in "yemen" and the thing that made him know it was trouble was the smell.

"It was worse than turpentine. It was something that would tell you that this isn't right," Jeff Lill said.

Lill -- who is somedays confined to his bed -- says he picked up the package ran it outside and evacuated the building. He says something was dripping out of the package that looked like molasses.

Irondequoit resident Janet Vieau says her son was poisoned by an item he handled at the post office. However, she says the post office has never done anything about it.

Over a year ago in February 2011, 44-year-old Jeffrey Lil's health has completely deteriorated. So much so he was unable to speak to us today.

Jeff worked as a supervisor at this post office processing center in Orlando Florida for several years.

Lil told his mother postal workers were instructed to isolate packages arriving from Greece, Turkey or Yemen.

Medley Centre developer asks for $250-million in state funding

News10NBC has been told more than once that construction to transform Medley Centre in Irondequoit could begin this year. Now, the owner is asking for millions in taxpayer help.

Assemblyman Joe Morelle confirms Scott Congel is looking for $250-million in state financing for the project.

Town officials said in February that Congel already had a deal with a major department store.

Morelle says for funding on such an enormous scale, there's an obligation to ask hard questions. Morelle says he won't move forward until those questions are answered.

Irondequoit High School senior Caitlin White has taken four APs and admits they can be tough, but well worth it.

White said, “My parents pushed me to take them, it hasn't been the easiest but I've gotten through them.”

She carries a 94 average and excels in math.

White said, “I like that if I don't know a problem, there's a way to figure it out.”

Sports are also Caitlin’s passion. She played varsity soccer and was on varsity tennis.

White said, “I've played soccer for as long as I can remember. I started lacrosse in the 7th grade as something to do.”

Something fun to do turned into a year round sport. By her freshman year, Caitlin was on varsity.

White said, “When I started playing lacrosse, I really liked it. My friends all played and that was a huge factor of it.”

Caitlin is now captain and plays year round, traveling in tournaments.

Plan to dine out Saturday at Pizzeria Uno to benefit a fundraiser

Alle Shea Collazo was born on April 14, 2009 with a severe form of the brittle bone disorder known as Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI).

At birth, Alle — whose parents reside in Irondequoit — was born with a broken arm, wrist, legs and skull fractures; the doctors did not expect her to live past the week. She passed away on May 21, 2009 due to respiratory complication from OI.

Alle Shea's parents, Angelo and Kim, are holding a fundraiser to support the work of the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation from 11:30 a.m. to midnight this Saturday, April 14, at the Pizzeria Uno Chicago Grill, 931 Holt Road, Webster. The foundation is a national voluntary health organization located in Gaithersburg, Md. One hundred percent of the money raised will go to the OI foundation, which responds to more than 6,000 inquiries each year, produces new information resources, funds research, and facilitates the operation of support groups across the country.
