Fire investigators in Irondequoit have called it a night after several hours investigating a massive barn fire on the Town Hall complex.
The fire started around 3:20 p.m. Friday and destroyed the town salt barn in a matter of minutes.
Point Pleasant Fire Chief John McGee told News10NBC that investigators determined where the fire started in the barn, but said electricians and engineers would be back at the scene Saturday to try to determine what sparked it.
A News10NBC employee was one of the first people on the scene of the fire Friday afternoon, and took cell phone pictures and video from nearby Titus Avenue.
Pictures and video showed thick black smoke and flames consuming most of the building.
Irondequoit Public Works Commissioner Patrick Meredith told the Irondequoit Post some of the department's equipment was destroyed, but he hoped the town might be able to salvage some of the salt in the barn, since salt doesn't burn.
Meredith said water from fire hoses probably did more damage to the salt than the fire.
It was also mentioned that most, if not all, of the five fire companies in Irondequoit responded to the blaze.
Firefighters remained at the Town Hall complex Friday night, putting out hot spots.
No injuries were reported.
