Woman becomes trapped after crashing into fire hydrant and utility pole
A woman is in the hospital after crashing her car into a fire hydrant and a utility pole in Irondequoit early Wednesday morning.
It happened at around 12:30 a.m. on Thomas Avenue. Firefighters say they spent more than a half hour cutting the roof off the woman's Jeep. She became trapped inside the vehicle after the crash and had to be pulled out. They say if she was driving a smaller vehicle, she may not have survived the crash.
The woman was rushed to Rochester General Hospital and is expected to survive. Police are still trying to figure out what caused the crash.
