Two high school grads from Irondequoit receive scholarship | News
Two recent high school graduates from Irondequoit are the recipients of this year's The Federation of Social Workers Ed Grabowski-Dina Finn Memorial Scholarship.
Megan Crowe graduated in June from Eastridge High School. She is attending SUNY Brockport. Nicole Vargas graduated from Irondequoit High School in June and is also attending SUNY Brockport, where she is studying social work. Both Crowe and Vargas received $1,000 toward their college expenses. Both students submitted a short essay on how they would use knowledge gained from their studies to help advance the labor movement.
Ed Grabowski provided the Federation of Social Workers with support and guidance for more than 20 years as a member. He was instrumental in the union’s decision to join the IUE in 1972. Dina Finn was a long-time member of the Federation of Social Workers Executive Board. She made significant contributions to the organization in many different areas. The Scholarship Fund has been established in their honor to assist members of the Federation and their children as they pursue their educational goals.
For almost 50 years, the Monroe County Federation of Social Workers IUE-CWA Local 381 has represented social workers, caseworkers, examiners, child care workers, investigators and legal assistants, as well as seniors and supervisors in those titles, who are employed by Monroe County at the Department of Human Services, Monroe Community Hospital, the Child Support Enforcement Unit and the Children's Center. The Monroe County Federation of Social Workers is located at 167 Flanders Street in Rochester, New York. The Federation was founded in 1959 and currently has over 900 members.
