A incoming 7th grader at Dake Junior High School in West Irondequoit is being credited with saving his cousin's life.
Kenny Brach was swimming in his pool with his 7-year-old cousin, Andrew, at his home on Belmeade Road on July 8 when Andrew came down the pool slide and splashed into the water.
But Andrew did not come up, Kenny swam to the bottom of the pool, and pulled his cousin to the surface and then called for help from his mom.
Police and emergency crews arrived, and Andrew is just fine. He told his aunt that the last thing he remembered was Kenny helping him.
Kenny has autism and has been attending the West Irondequoit Summer Inclusion Program, which includes swimming activities in the high school pool.
He enjoys swimming, in fact, he had just passed his “deep end test,” an accomplishment that made him quite proud.
Kenny will be a seventh grade student at Dake Junior High in September.
